Rapid tournaments in and around Mexico City 9

Rapid chess, often ten minutes a side plus a few seconds a move, is the everyday format of tournaments around Mexico City. The Circuito Suburbano plays its editions at the Buenavista suburban-train station, the Aztlán circuit moves between Pilares centres and museums before its final, and the Abierto de Tlalpan adds a rapid to its blitz and classical sections. ESNAJ has run a FIDE-rated rapid at Terraza Urbana on Avenida Barranca del Muerto, and the UNAM university games include rapid sections in Ciudad Universitaria.

North and east of the city, rapid is almost the only format: Tablerazo in Ciudad Satélite, the open mixed rapid of Los Reyes Ixtacala in Tlalnepantla, El Mictlán in San Pedro Xalostoc in Ecatepec, and the league of the eastern valley clubs in Valle de Chalco. Each is a series of single-day events, and its organiser’s page carries the date and the entry terms.
